eight small steps (Kirk embedded in Galway)

Friends of Ireland and the Poths,

Today, again, we ask the same thing Paul did for his country men and women in the Book of Romans.

"Lord, our hearts desire and pray for them (the Galwayegians) is for their salvation." Amen!
Romans 10:1

I have been enjoying my 'schnopper' ([German] for having a look; doing some scouting around) days in Galway.

Galway (official Irish name: Gaillimh) is the only city in the province of Connacht in the Republic of Ireland. The city is located on the west coast of Ireland. In Irish, Galway is also called Cathair na Gaillimhe, which is a translation of "City of Galway".

The city takes its name from the Gaillimh river (River Corrib) that formed the western boundary of the earliest settlement, which was called DĂșn Bhun na Gaillimhe, or the fort at the bottom of the Gaillimh.

The word Gaillimh means "stony" as in "stony river". The city also bears the nickname City of the Tribes / Cathair na dTreabh, because fourteen "Tribes" (merchant families) led the city in its Hiberno-Norman period. The term Tribes was originally a derogatory phrase from Cromellian times. The merchants would have seen themselves as English nobility, and hence were loyal to the King. Their uncertain reaction to the siege of Galway by Cromwellian forces earned them this label, which they subsequently adopted in defiance.

The population of Galway city, as of the 2006 census, is 72,414. Galway is Ireland's fastest growing city.

Galway City (that is, the population inside the city limits) is the third largest in the Republic of Ireland. However, the population of the wider urban area, is fourth largest in the Republic of Ireland.

Galway is often considered to be the 'Cultural Capital of Ireland', and is world renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and numerous festivals, celebrations and events.

Galway City is unique among Irish cities because of the strength of its Irish language, music, song and dancing traditions - it is often referred to as the 'Bilingual Capital of Ireland'. The city is well known for its ‘Irishness’, and mainly due to the fact that it has on its doorstep the Galway Gaeltacht. The language is visible on the city streets, with bilingual signage on display on shops and road signs, and can be heard by locals around the city.

May the Lord be renowned in this place!

Blessings to you all!

two small steps (Kirk on the Emerald Isle)

In my two days already in Galway I have enjoyed some special moments.

I have been privileged with 'living room' conversations with dear dear folks named Richie (a Catholic Priest) and Peggy (an elderly Irish Lassie).

Jesus tells us, it is a wise man and a wise women who build their lives on a solid foundation (the word of God) and who have Jesus as their chief cornerstone. If these things are present in ones' live they have nothing to fear and will never ever be shaken.

"Lord, may this be true in all of our lives and those of the Irish." Amen!

got snooze?

My dear wife has an unusual habit: taking pictures of her family sleeping.

We have recently scanned all of our 18,600 photos in preparation for our departure to Ireland.

We noticed every 2 or 3 thousand pictures or so, that Sandlin captured someone sleeping.

Usually, it was of me (Kirk) and my mouth is wide open.

Yikes! Not a particularly pleasant sight.

As we pray for that dear country called Ireland today, we are looking to the Lord to wake up the people from their snooze. That they might be fully alive towards things of Him- for a spiritual awakening and revival.

We ask you Lord to call out a huge number of people who will bow their knee to Jesus and worship you in Spirit and in truth. We ask theses things for your honor and glory.

Psalm 67:2- "may your ways be made known in Ireland, your salvation among all the people."

the greatest thing ever!

I am so glad that I'm a part of the family of God.

It is the greatest thing that this life has to offer to belong to Him!

It is the greatest thing to have a loving Heavenly Father.

It is the greatest thing to be loved.

It is the greatest thing to be provided for.

It is the greatest thing to be watched out for.

It is the greatest thing to be connected.

It is the greatest thing to be secure and safe.

He is the greatest!!

His family is the greatest too!!

Today, we pray that our friends in Ireland will experience His heavenly benediction and care in every way, shape and form today.

1 John 3:1- "Behold what manner of love the Father has given unto us that we should be called the children of God."

standing in awe

Our prayer today comes from a book out of the Minor Prophets in the Old Testament.

The Book of Habakkuk records for us an awesome prayer (Psalm) that we are adopting for Ireland.

The prophet through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit writes down his prayer in chapter 3.

"Lord, I have heard of your fame, I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known...His glory covered the heavens ans his praise filled the earth."

Lord, we DO stand in awe, not only in your deeds, but in awe of you- please make yourself known to the Irish in a mighty way today, so that your praise might fill that land too. Amen!
